In action since 1912 the Sugar Loaf mountain or ‘Pão de Açúcar’ to us Brazilians is a MUST see for anyone visiting Rio de Janeiro, the views without sounding obvious are absolutely spectacular. The ‘Bondinho’ (cable car) is open for business all day and into the evening. It’s a brilliant trip for any time of the day however my favourite time is about before sunset, the light changes from the full glaring sun and the atmosphere is a lot more chilled out plus you’ll get some killer photo’s of the sunsetting.
There’s a lot of walking involved so wear comfy shoes rather than flip flops, it’s also quite windy so beware of floaty dresses if you want to avoid a Marilyn moment…
Check out the website for up to date info on opening and closing times
Believe it or not I would take the Sugar Loaf over the Cristo any day!
