A day in the park offers a wonderful change of prospective on the Cidade Maravilhosa and Parque Lage is just one of those places you have to visit if you’re in town. Located near to the Jardim Botanico Neighbourhood and at the foot of the Corcovado (Christ Statue), Parque Lage is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle.
For those of you looking for a twist on the usual tourist trail, walks up the Corcovado can be done from this location with average time of 2 hours but be prepared as you will literally be trekking uphill in the dense humidity of the Tijuca National Park. If you’re going to do this go prepared with the appropriate walking gear and lots of water. It is always best to enlist a professional guide to take you up, most hotels can arrange this for you.
The restaurant Cafe du Lage is in a stunning setting, located around the pool within the colonial building and offers a selection of delicious treats. Coffee and cake is always a winner in my book but for those of you wanting something more substantial there’s plenty on offer.
